Srilanka is known for best qualities of gemstones mainly due to alluvial deposit since more than 2500 years ago and also known as a world capital for Sapphires. Gem mines are mainly located in the southern and central province of Sri Lanka. The mines were mainly either in rice paddles where once ancient river used to flow, vegetable plantation, tea plantation, flowing river and especially the old river which have dried. Overall it was a very educational trip.
